United States President James "Jim" Marshall (Harrison Ford) is a new start back to his country after a speech at a celebration event of arrest General Ivan Radek (Jurgen Prochnow), the rebel leader Kazakhstan in Moscow, Russia. Without realizing the presidential plane Air Force One infiltrated by a group of terrorists posing as a Russian television crew. Terrorist leaders Egor Korshunov (Gary Oldman) and his men suddenly attacked and managed to master the aircraft.
All the passengers aboard Air Force One hostage, including the President's wife, Grace Marshall (Wendy Crewson) and their daughter, Alice (Liesel Matthews). But Mr Marshall managed to capture the terrorists escaped and hid themselves in the vast plane. Although the escape was upset with the president, Egor directly contact the White House in Washington to demand the release of their leader, General Radek from prison. If not met, the terrorists will execute one passenger every half hour until their demands are met.
While President Marshall suspected terrorists have escaped the plane by using the lifeboats, it was secretly trying to take control of the aircraft. The terrorists who finally knows the business Marshall, trying to catch him alive. But they have underestimated the ability of the president who is a former soldier the nation's highest award "Medal of Honor" in Vietnam battlefield. With a physique that still fit and martial arts abilities, Marshall tried to finish off the terrorists one by one in addition to trying to free his wife, daughter and other passengers.
While tensions in the increasingly tense presidential plane, which is no less tense situation is also experienced by Vice President Kathryn Bennett (Glenn Close), who immediately called an emergency meeting to resolve the piracy. According the United States government policy, they should not even have to meet the demands of terrorists endanger their leader.
